Affiliation Unit

Deputy Directors Note

The Affiliation Unit was created on 1st June 2018 in the Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring to serve as the Desk Office for all affiliation matters. The Unit was created to streamline all Affiliations in the University. It is important to note that affiliation is an arrangement in which the University offers its franchise to another institution to run one or more academic programmes or any other service under strict supervision of the University based on mutually agreed terms and conditions. I therefore, call on all stakeholders to join hands with the Directorate to ensure the smooth coordination of all affiliation activities so as to guarantee quality of the graduates.

Mandate of the unit

TThe Affiliation Unit is responsible for:

1. maintaining robust affiliation information for quality assurance monitoring and evaluation;


2. developing and reviewing the University policy and guidelines on affiliations;


3. monitor academic activities in affiliate institutions;


4. ensuring that quality assurance system in the affiliate institutions is in place;


5. monitoring all academic activities in affiliate institutions;


6. organizing and coordinating resource verification visits by the University to institutions that apply for affiliation;


7. coordinating NUC Institutional & Programme Accreditation in affiliate institutions;


8. preparing and ensuring that agreements (MoUs) are signed and regularly reviewed between the University and the affiliate institutions;


9. providing regular orientation, training, and workshops, to the affiliate institutions;


10. designing an advanced warning system for the University against erring affiliates in order to avert liability to the University; and


11. providing any other information to the public on University affiliations.

Achievements

• Files have been created for each affiliate institutions to contain correspondences and any other information. The documents are now properly kept in a systematic and easily accessible format for each institution. There is also a general file for general affiliation matters;


• Policy document and operational guidelines on affiliations have been developed for both Degree and Sub-degree. The policy document was approved by the University Senate and the Governing Council;


• The DAPM ensured that faculties prepare an academic calendar which is followed by the affiliate institutes. The Directorate also coordinated the submission and collection or submission of exam materials by affiliate institutes;


• The Directorate coordinated some of the NUC programme accreditation exercises for affiliate institutions conducted in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024;


• The Affiliation Unit has over the years successfully participated in monitoring of lectures and examinations in affiliate institutions offering degree programmes; and


• the Directorate conducted resource verification of institutions seeking affiliation for various sub-degree programmes and have so far officially facilitated the approval of 29 colleges.
